Pastor Sonny Thomas and his family – Julie, Sonny Jr. (age 16), and Heather (age 8) – came to Calvary Free Will Baptist Church from Orlando, FL, in December 2005. Pastor Sonny is originally from Johnson City, TN, and he and Sister Julie have been married for 18 years.

After years of living in the depths of alcohol addiction, Pastor Sonny was saved in March 1995. In 1996 he heard God's call on his life and answered the call to preach. Before arriving in North Carolina, Pastor Sonny served as a pastor in Tennessee for three years and in Florida for nearly five.

He is a graduate of Northeast State Technical Community College and East Tennessee State University, and is currently working towards a Master of Ministry degree with Gateway Christian College of Virginia Beach, VA.

Pastor Sonny is a former middle and high school teacher which included time as a teacher for P.A.T.H. Academy in Greeneville, TN, and Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School in Cocoa Beach, FL, which has consistently been awarded as a top 100 school in the United States. He also spent two years employeed with the United States Space Program at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Ebenezer Christian Children's Home in North Wilkesboro, NC, and is a member in good standing with the Blue Ridge Free Will Baptist Association, the North Carolina Association of Free Will Baptists, and the National Association of Free Will Baptists.

Sister Julie has been employeed with Samaritan's Purse International, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world, since 2006. She has also served as a Sunday school teacher and church clerk. She is presently serving in our Ladies' Auxiliary.

Pastor Sonny is a man dedicated to the preaching of the Bible and to promoting the kingdom of Christ throughout our world.
